In 1996 the DWQ Environmental Sciences Section (ESS), in consultation with Regional Office staff, Wildlife Resources biologists, and Division of Marine Fisheries personnel instituted a new fish kill investigation procedure to be used by the DWQ Regional Offices and other agencies to collect and track information on fish kills throughout the state. Fish kill and fish health data are recorded on a standardized form and sent to the Divisions ESS where the data are reviewed. Fish kill investigation forms and supplemental information sent to the ESS are compiled in a central database where the data can be managed and retrieved for use in reporting to concerned parties. Fish kills and disease events often involve a host of factors and underlying causes, therefore, it is the Divisions intent to gather as much information as possible surrounding an event from all involved parties. Fish kill information received by the ESS will be summarized at this site on a weekly basis during the fish kill season (June to October). Investigators must confirm that at least 25 fish were affected before the kill event is reported here. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
